A Gentle Reminder: Creating a Safe and Considerate 4th of July Celebration
Hello everyone,
The team at A Fresh Connection Catering here, and we're reaching out today with a very special message. As we gather to commemorate the birth of our nation this 4th of July, let's take a moment to remember all members of our community: our families, friends, pets, and the brave combat veterans who've served our country with honor and courage.
Fireworks and the 4th of July go hand in hand. The excitement, the spectacular displays lighting up the night sky, the BBQs, and the shared sense of patriotism—it's all part of our cherished tradition. But while we revel in these dazzling displays, we should also keep in mind that the loud booms and flashes can sometimes be startling or stressful for some in our community.
Firstly, our combat veterans, who've dedicated their lives to safeguarding our freedom and protecting our values. For them, the sudden sounds and flashes can potentially trigger symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), a condition that some veterans may experience after facing intense combat situations. The sharp, unexpected noises might remind them of traumatic events and can lead to heightened stress and anxiety levels.
Secondly, our pets, who are an integral part of our families. They offer us their companionship, their love, and are often a source of comfort and joy. But they can become extremely scared and anxious because of the loud fireworks. Dogs and cats, in particular, have a heightened sense of hearing compared to humans. Sounds that may seem distant or moderate to us can be very loud and startling to them.
So, what can we do to ensure that everyone can enjoy this patriotic celebration?
Schedule Fireworks: Inform your neighbors and the local community about the timings of your fireworks. This will help veterans and pet owners to prepare themselves and their pets for the noise.
Quiet Fireworks: Consider using quiet fireworks or noiseless light displays. These are less likely to disturb both veterans and pets, while still providing a beautiful spectacle.
Provide Safe Spaces: If you are a pet owner, make sure you have a safe, quiet space for your pets. Keep them indoors during the firework displays and play calming music to mask the noise. For veterans, offering a supportive, understanding environment is key. If you know a combat veteran who might be disturbed by fireworks, consider inviting them to a quieter celebration, or ensure they have a peaceful and comfortable space to retreat to.
Spread Awareness: Share this information with others. The more people understand the impact of fireworks on veterans and pets, the more considerate our celebrations can be.
The 4th of July is a time for all of us to come together and celebrate the incredible freedom and opportunities that our country offers. Let's ensure that everyone, including our pets and veterans, can enjoy this day without fear or anxiety. Together, we can create a considerate, inclusive celebration that truly honors the spirit of our nation.
Wishing you all a safe and happy 4th of July!
With Love,
The Team at A Fresh Connection Catering
